Getting Together With Local Moms Over a Kellogg’s Breakfast

by Jennifer James

I am still smiling from my morning! Today, I hosted a local moms’ get-together as a part of the Moms Breakfast Club sponsored by Kellogg’s and The Motherhood.

Everything was perfect! I found the most amazing space to host the breakfast last week when I stumbled across a community arts center right across the street from me. I knew I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to host my event there and support my neighbors! Art lined the walls, coffee was brewing in the artists’ cafe, and nine of us were in a workshop room mingling, snacking on cereal bars, and meeting one another.

Shortly after we got settled Trinh Le, a Senior Brand Manager at Kellogg’s, called in. The moms and Trinh engaged in a robust conversation via speakerphone about breakfast, morning routines, nutrition, fiber, and sugar.  I have to admit I sat back and let the great conversation unfold since I had the pleasure of going to Kellogg’s HQ this week and had my personal questions answered there.

As I listened I couldn’t help but notice how long the conversation could have gone. The moms asked smart questions about cereal and nutrition and offered invaluable insights about their morning routines and about what works for their families. And Trinh shared research-backed nutrition information about the benefits of eating cereal in the morning.

A few of the moms talked about how important it is for them to make sure their children get a healthy and hearty breakfast because once they’re at school they don’t eat again until the afternoon and by time they get home, their children are ravenous. Trinh suggested feeding their children cereals with fiber and some echoed that sentiment saying their children eat Frosted Mini-Wheats as an afternoon snack.

Moms also agreed with Trinh that it does, in fact, take 15 minutes to get breakfast on the table particularly during the school year. Fifteen minutes is not a long time and many of these moms understood that limited time coupled with the desire to provide a nutritious breakfast means feeding their children cereal in the morning.

I love that the breakfast was a two-way conversation between Kellogg’s and the moms. In all, both parties learned quite a bit from one another.

After the call, we all got together and took a photo.

And then to round out the breakfast we spent the last moments as we started: by talking, mingling, making connections, sharing business cards, and even discussing social media and blogging.

We all left the breakfast wanting to get together again soon. It was a lovely moms’ morning out!

I would like to thank Kellogg’s and The Motherhood for allowing me to be a part of the conversation and to host a breakfast in my hometown.
