Why do you blog? Seems like
a simple question, doesn't it? Well, we know there are
myriad reasons why moms start bloggging, fall in love
with it, hone their craft and stick with it for years.
What's your inspiration?
Send your response to us at

We look forward to hearing
your thoughts and sharing them with mom bloggers all over
the world. Here's to mom blogging. Cheers!
Someone recently asked me what "blog"
stood for since I am a regular
blogger. I researched and couldn't
find a satisfactory answer. ELOG
seems more appropriate (as in
electronic log), however, BLOG just
sounds fun. And that's one of the
things that I love about blogging.
It brings me hours of enjoyment and
I LOVE that I can let my fingers fly
and throw out there whatever suits
my fancy that day. Inane
musings, life lessons, funny and
touching things that happen. Every
once in awhile I even produce
something of quality. A blog can
encompass past, present and future.
It can be anything one wants it to
be. Gotta love that!
I appreciate instant formatting. I
appreciate the ability to add
personal touches and fun pictures.
I really appreciate that unsung hero
that made blogging possible for
people like me. And, I can't tell
my friends, blogging acquaintances, and
family how much their comments mean
to me.
Motherhood
is just not something that you can do alone.
As a motherless mom, I'm acutely aware of it. Well meaning
friends, aunts, inlaws, husbands -- sometimes you just need
more.
You need to have that camaraderie of women in the same shoes
as you. You need their advice, their sympathy, their
company, their kvetching.
Every mom wants to talk about what their child is doing,
what's normal, what's worrisome, what's cute. Only other
moms can appreciate and tolerate hearing how your child
spends hours every morning taking every item of clothing out
of his drawers and piling them around the dog. We need each
other.
I have been blogging as Manic
Mommy for almost THREE years at
www.manicmommy.blogspot.com. Why do I do
it? Blogging is calorie-free, you can do it
all night, and not wake up with a
hangover!!
I blog to stay connected with the rest of the
world when my babies are sleeping. This outlet
allows me to be a better mom for my children
because when they need me, I am rejuvenated and
ready to play / teach / provide. Without my site
acting as an daily escape for me, I don't know
what I would do!
I write online for two reasons. One, It's
a gift I give to my children; I do not make scrapbooks,
I am a miserable keeper of photo albums, and I barely
keep the baby books updated. It's
something I hope to pass on to our children and their
descendants so that they may have the unique opportunity
to see into their childhood in a way that birthday party
photos and school portraits could never convey.
Two, I blog for therapy – it's cathartic, and largely
responsible for my being upright today. I had very bad
post partum depression (four times!), my marriage was
disintegrating and the combination just got to be too
much. Writing and blogging helped me through it.I
kept blogging because I had no idea how much I loved to
write, or that I was good at it. It's wonderful
therapy.It is
my support system, peopled with thousands of people like
me, who are struggling with life and work and family and
existential angst and what to wear to dinner tonight and
how to handle bedwetting and how to get pregnant and all
sorts of things that close friends discuss with one
another. My mom, an English and creative
writing professor, talks about writing to stay sane. I
love that view, and it’s why I do this.

I blog to become a better mother, wife, writer, consumer,
cook, dresser and friend. Writing is an easy passion that
flows through my blood to my fingers and onto the keyboard
like waves to the shore. My inspiration is the day-to-day
stress that takes away from the little things we should be
grateful for. However, while all the above is true, it would
be quite rude to forget to mention the almighty dollar.
