Tom's of Maine Gives Back

We absolutely love it when companies accept their social responsible and give back. Tom's of Maine has been giving back for more than 40 years by donating 10% of their profits to charity and allowing employees 5% paid time off to volunteer. This year, Tom's of Maine has launched Dental Health for All, an initiative that brings everyday Americans and local communities together with Tom’s of Maine to help create greater access to dental care for families in need.

In this failing economy there are so many families and children in need it is heartwarming that Tom's of Maine is taking active strides to assist people who need help most. We at The Mom Salon salute them!

"It's hard for a parent to imagine not being able to take their child for a routine dental check-up, but for the nearly half of American families without dental insurance or access to dental care this is an unfortunate reality," said Kerry Maguire, D.D.S., M.S.P.H. and Tom's Director of Professional of Advocacy. "It may seem like an overwhelming problem but Tom's of Maine truly believes we can work together to make a difference, one small step at a time."

In January, Tom's of Maine will donate a portion of its sales for all products towards Dental Health for All and will award dental clinics across the country grants for oral health projects in February. With each purchase, families can enjoy their same favorite products or try natural oral care for the first time and have it benefit not only their family but a family in need of dental health.

Buy Holidays Gifts + Help 350,000 Victims of Violence

Let Hope Shine!I absolutely hate thinking about child abuse because I cannot imagine an adult who could harm a child. But as much as I hate to think about it, I do realize that tens of thousands of children are abused each and every day and it breaks my heart. At least there are organizations like Safe Horizon that care enough about these innocent children to work tirelessly to save them from harm.

This fall, Safe Horizon launched Hope Shining - a national initiative to raise awareness of child abuse. In addition to Hope Shining, Safe Horizon also created the Hope Shop where you can purchase holiday gifts such as their hope bracelet, silk tie, magnet, or Hope Shining silver necklace at their Hope Shop where 100% of the proceeds go directly to funding programs for children who are abused.

Help a child who needs you. Visit www.hopeshining.org.

Get a Wake-Up Call From Ellen

Ellen Degeneres and One a Day have teamed up to remind women how important it is to schedule your annual mammogram. In a creative push to educate women about breast cancer prevention you can go to OneaDay.com and have a free personalized phone call from Ellen DeGeneres sent to their friends and loved ones to advise them about the simple things they can do to help support their own breast health. I scheduled a call for my mom. In fact, she received hers this morning and called to say how "cool" is was. Here's how it works:

Click to Empower Victims of Domestic Violence: You Can Make a Difference

It is amazing to us how rampant domestic violence is in America's homes. One in four women have experienced domestic violence in their lifetime. Women and mothers, in particular, are oftentimes scared to death to break away from violent husbands and boyfriends and instead opt for more abuse in order to keep their home life "stable" for the children.

National Domestic Violence Awareness Month is next month and the Allstate Foundation and "Ugly Betty" star Anna Ortiz have joined forces to help women break the chains of domestic violence. The Allstate Foundation is imploring women and men to "Tell a Gal P.A.L." - Pass it On, Act and Learn - about domestic violence and how economic empowerment can lead to a safe future for survivors.

Through a partnership with the non-profit organization Dress for Success, select AClick To Empower. Brought to you by The Allstate Foundation.llstate agencies across the country will collect nearly new purses and professional bags now through October 3. The donated items will be distributed to domestic violence survivors and women in need to outfit them with confidence they enter or re-enter the workforce and get back on their feet financially.

Visit http://www.clicktoempower.org/ to learn more about what you can do to help yourself if you are in a domestic violence situation or help a gal pal. There you can also enter to win an Onna Ehrlich designer purse donated by Anna Ortiz.

You can also help spread the word about help for domestic violence victims by taking one of their web badges and putting it on your blog. We've put it on our sidebar here at TheMomSalon.com. We encourage you to also help women in need by doing the same. Every little bit helps.

Share Something Sweet and Help Children in Need

Ferrero Chocolates (love them!) has partnered with Share Our Strength, a national organization that strives to end childhood hunger in our country, for the second year of Share Something Sweet. Share Something Sweet is a partnership that strives to get the entire nation involved in erradicating childhood hunger. Although we are the richest country in the world some children go to bed and wake up with empty tummies. Ferrero Chocolates and Share the Strength have pledged to do something about it.

According to Share Our Strength 12 million children are at risk of hunger, which we must say is startling and totally preventable. Share Our Strength works with a network of community groups, activists, and food programs to ensure that children have healthy and nutritious food where they work, play and live.

Ferrero Chocolates has already donated $150,000 to this worthy cause and now you can help hungry children, too. If you log on to Share Something Sweet and use it to "send something sweet" (that is, a customizable e-card), Ferrero will donate another $1 per e-card sent, up to $10,000. So easy! And for every person that joins the Ferrero Facebook page, "Ferrero Lovers Unite," Ferrero will donate another $1 to Share Our Strength (up to $1,000).

We are getting in on the action! Send us your email address at editors (at) themomsalon (dot) com and we will send you an e-card and help feed a hungry child.
