Happy Inauguration Day!
Tuesday, January 20, 2009
I must say, I have never in all my life been excited about an inauguration. Ever! Sure, I watched the ceremony -- ho, hum. Today, though, I am so elated about Barack Obama's presidency that I won't miss a minute. I wish I could be there, but, honestly, I don't know how I could really handle being enmeshed amongst throngs and throngs of people. Can you say panic attack? If you happen to live in New York, or will be headed that way before the end of the month, there is an interesting piece of Obama art on display at the Museum of Arts and Design in Manhattan. Benjamin Shine, a British artist, was so moved by the presidential election and Obama's message of change that he created a piece called "Changing States". It is a close-up portraiture of Obama fashioned from pieces of a retired American flag woven through mesh.
"It seemed appropriate to use the nation's flag, reconfigured in order to reflect and celebrate the positive notion of change that is taking place in the United States," Shine said.

"Changing States" will be on display in the lobby of the Museum of Arts and Design through the end of the month. And "Changing States" t-shirts will be sold in their museum store.

+ Read my review of Barack Obama: United States President, a Penguin Young Readers Group book. It is a New York Times best seller and is the first children's biography written on Barack Obama.

Ana Tsarev Gallery Exhibit in SOHO
Sunday, November 30, 2008
Giving your children a deep sense of art or going gallery-hopping with your best girlfriends are two of the greatest things you can do in life. It's the little things that render life meaningful. Art, in some form, is most always at the root of beauty and happiness. At the New Gallery on West 57th Street in New York City, Ana Tsarev's first ever art exhibit, Journey of Discovery, will be held until February 20, 2009.
Zarev's vibrant paintings are concerned with both historic and present day rituals, traditions, and daily life. Journey of Discovery features works depicting the beauty of daily life in a wide range of scenes from the flower markets and rice fields of Southeast Asia to traditional dances of West African tribes; from Japanese kabuki and tea ceremonies to life along China's riverfront.
